On Monday, we'd be putting a lot of lake behind us, steaming all the way up to
Reflection Canyon at Mile 57 on the lake's north shore. We'd then spend
the rest of the week canyon hopping back down the lake toward Wahweap. Nicole had to
abandon ship on Monday because of pressing personal
business, so Scott shuttled her back to Wahweap in the speedboat.
Unfortunately, she forgot her wallet, so he had to shuttle her back out to the
houseboat. By this time, the houseboat was already to Dangling Rope Marina
(mile 41, north shore), where we had stopped to refuel. By the time Scott
returned from the second shuttle, we were at Reflection Canyon.
Reflection Canyon is one of the more narrow side canyons, and in 2000 (before
the current drought that has, at the time of this writing, brought the lake down to 50% of full pool),
Reflection Canyon was one of the longer side canyons as well. It took some
maneuvering to get our little hippie houseboat into an anchorage at the end of it.
Not long after we arrived, though, a somewhat larger and more well-appointed
rental houseboat full of Californians pulled in alongside, just far enough away
that we couldn't hear them talking but close enough that we could hear them
playing their George Strait CD's at top ... volume ... all ... night ... long.
If you're thinkin' you want a stranger ... well, there's one about to swim over
and knock you upside the head.
